Flashback to the 80's
Who knew aliens were so hairy? This was my first thought upon the beginning of watching the classic "Earth Girls Are Easy." I last watched this movie in 1990 when my 12 year old self thought "Holy smokes Jeff Goldblum is hot." I still think this.
This movies is about three aliens played by Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carey(didn't remember him at all) and Damon Wayans. They are very interested in women, specifically Geena Davis. They crash their spaceship into her pool. Their spaceship which looks like the yellow submarine. Also WOW we have come a long way in special effects.
Geena is dating a doctor "Dr Love" who is cheating on her. They destroy Geena's house as they are fascinated with all things earthly. They learn English because they posses the alien ability to mimic other peoples language and sounds.
You know what I forgot? That this movie is a musical. With reallllly bad music.
This is set in the San Fernando valley, which is awesome. There are a lot of valley and LA references.
Geena is a manicurist and her bff decides they need a makeover. Her bff shaves them, because before this point they look like a combo of hairy teletubbies and barney, and magically they come out hot.
Hijinks occur including heading to the local dance club which is at the Griffith Observatory. Fun fact there has never been a dance club there. I googled it.
At the club the aliens are a hit with the ladies. Typical. There is a dance off. I wish every movie had a dance off.
Geena falls in love with Jeff Goldblum. I mean, who wouldn't?
But of course she still loves Dr Love. They are on again off again.
She gets a So Cal stoner pool man to drain her pool, he then has adventures with the aliens. Things go awry as they are wont to do, the car ends up in the Randy's Donuts sign. Like that could happen.
The ship is magically fixed. They go to leave, but Geena is still in love with Jeff. He takes her with him.
The end.
Moral? Aliens are real hairy and straight. Part two needs to be a gay version. Cause aliens are def not straight.
